I was born in San Antonio Texas, and having traveled all over the world as a military kid, I landed here in Virginia in 1984. There is no place I’d rather be than Williamsburg! It’s people, it’s scenic nature trails, and it’s historical points of interest are all just beautiful.
I have loved Virginia’s outdoor scene since I was a kid, and hence, an affection for all things fitness and wellness blossomed. I pursued degrees and certifications-galore in Fitness Management, including a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science with a focus in Nutrition studies/Cardiac Rehab. At the time, my interest was geared more towards becoming a Physical Therapist, and so I worked for a year or two in various clinics and hospitals to gain experience with rehabbing patients. While applying to various PT programs, I worked as the Director of Health and Wellness at Christopher Newport University’s brand new Freeman Center.
Then Behold. I was accepted into the Doctorate Program at ODU, only to be unexpectedly recruited by Merck as a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep. It paid a fantastic salary…and yet…
I was miserable.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s a great job, for many people. It just felt like I was born to do something else. Long hours in a car and lots of restaurant food wrecked my body, and it wasn’t long before I was a physically and emotionally drained train wreck. At 35, I was in pain from head to toe and exhausted most of the time.
While whittling away the unfulfilling hours making what felt like mega-bucks, I entered massage school and took classes on the side as a sort of hobby. I absolutely loved it. I had already invested nearly a decade into becoming a complete stress ball (lol) and massage therapy was all about creating the total opposite of that.
2008’s massive nation-wide layoffs offered me what I now see (but didn’t then) as one of the greatest opportunities and gifts I’ve ever been given: the chance to build a business that blends what I absolutely love most: Yoga, Bodywork, and Wellness Consulting. The Inspire Studio was about to be born!
Along the way, I also discovered Thai Massage and Mobility Bodywork, and was even more smitten with this incredibly beautiful healing art that blended yogic living with a very spiritual dance with the body. It wasn’t long before I was off to Yogaville, Greece, Portugal, and France for more training. While learning to practice, I began to notice that I was healing too! My body became supple again, I was no longer in chronic pain, and now, in my 50’s, I feel far better than I ever did in my 30’s when I was running ragged. I am so filled with gratitude for the teachings I’ve received from such amazing and skilled souls, and even happier to use those skills to help others feel as amazing as they made me feel.
Since then, I’ve been blissfully happy building my little business, helping others, and loving every single thing about Virginia. The Inspire Studio offers a multi-faceted approach to self-care and regular bodywork, massage, blended yoga and bodywork (YOThai), aerial yoga, and personalized holistic health support.
I hope that we can work together towards your own, wonderful and healthy life, so that you too can feel as good as you should in this moment.
