What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a specialized treatment that uses advanced computer technology for balancing and optimizing your brain. It is a fun, interactive and engaging treatment that helps you strengthen and retrain your brain to a healthier, more focused state.

Using real-time displays of brain activity, you can learn how to self-regulate your brain function.

Clients come to see Sam for problems with anxiety, worrying, trauma, anxiety, depression, poor performance, addiction, etc.   Often clients have also tried psychotherapy, which can be helpful for many issues, but may not address the brain itself as part of the root problem.   Additionally, clients may have already tried different medications but may not feel that the issues have been fully addressed, or they may not like the side effects.

Neurofeedback is the idea of learning how to control your own brain.  Most see significant changes within just six sessions. And by the end of 6 months, many will feel far more focused, less anxious, and overall more stable.

Research has demonstrated the effectiveness of neurofeedback to improve many conditions including:

  • ADD/ADHD
  • ANXIETY
  • AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER
  • BIPOLAR DISORDER
  • CHRONIC PAIN
  • DEPRESSION
  • HEADACHES
  • MEMORY ISSUES
  • PTSD
  • SLEEP DISORDERS
  • TRAUMATIC BRAIN DISORDERS
  • GRIEF/TRAUMA

Frequently Ask Questions

Q:  What are some of the benefits I'll see from Neurofeedback?

A:   With neurofeedback, you play an active role in your brains healing!  Clients report enhanced memory and focus, decreased impulsivity and anxiety, better mental clarity, more restful sleep, improved mood, and a host of other benefits after using neurofeedback.  And, all without side-effects!  The effects and benefits of training last long after the training itself has stopped.  This occurs because the brain has actually learned (or rather, relearned) a more efficient way of performing.  It will continue in this way as new pathways in the  brain are created, thus making lasting change the path of least effort.

Q:  Does insurance cover neurofeedback?

A:   Not typically, but health savings plans often reimburse for it. We hope that like massage, acupuncture, and other health practices that have been slow to be covered, neurofeedbacks science-based results will lend to it being recognized and covered as it should be in the future.  For now, it is an out of pocket service.  Considering the long-term relief and possibility of reduction of other expenses such as medications, therapies, etc. as a result of healing the underlying cause, an investment can often be well-worth it.

Q:  How do I make my first appointment?

A:  Contact Sam Scovill, MA at 707-951-7480 or sscovill123@gmail.com to schedule an appointment.  He offers a complimentary fifteen minute first session to discuss the appropriateness of Neurofeedback for you.

Call today for your complimentary session, and start on the path to a healthy brain!
